Introduction

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is responsible for conducting recruitment for various posts in the Central Government Ministries, Departments, and Organizations. The SSC GD, which stands for Constable (General Duty) in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), is one of the most sought-after exams conducted by the SSC. The SSC GD 2023 notification was released on 24th November 2023, and the application process is currently ongoing.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the SSC GD 2023 exam, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Nationality: Indian

  • Age: 18-23 years as on 01-01-2024 (Candidates should not have been born earlier than 02-01-2001 and later than 01-01-2006)

  • Educational Qualification: Matriculation or equivalent from a recognized board or university

  • Physical Standards: Candidates must meet the physical standards prescribed for the post of Constable (GD) in CAPFs.

Vacancies

A total of 66,000 vacancies have been announced for the SSC GD 2023 exam. The vacancies are distributed among the following CAPFs:

  • Border Security Force (BSF) - 26146

  • Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) - 21700

  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) - 12359

  • Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) - 3189

  • Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) - 2348

Salary and Allowances

The selected candidates will be appointed as Constables (GD) in the CAPFs. The pay scale for the post is ₹30,200 to ₹42,000 (Gross). In addition to the basic pay, the candidates will also be eligible for various allowances, such as dearness allowance, house rent allowance, transport allowance, and uniform allowance.

Selection Process

The selection process for the SSC GD 2023 exam will consist of the following stages:

Written Exam:

The written exam will consist of four parts:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: This part will consist of questions on verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

  • General Knowledge: This part will consist of questions on general knowledge, current affairs, and Indian history and geography.

  • Elementary Mathematics: This part will consist of questions on arithmetic, algebra, and trigonometry.

  • English/Hindi: This part will consist of questions on English/Hindi grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET):

The PET will consist of the following tests:

  • Running: 5 km for men and 3 km for women

  • High Jump: 1.22 m for men and 0.91 m for women

  • Broad Jump: 5.6 m for men and 4.2 m for women

  • Shot Put: 8 kg for men and 4 kg for women

Physical Standard Test (PST):

The PST will consist of the following tests:

  • Height: 170 cm for men and 157 cm for women

  • Chest: 81 cm (unexpired) for men

  • Weight: In proportion to height and age

Detailed Medical Examination (DME):

The DME will be conducted to ensure that the candidates are physically and mentally fit for the job.
